SciChart Support – How to Ask a Good Question

At SciChart we get asked a lot of questions – literally hundreds per week and many are duplicates.

We want to help you to build applications using our software, but to do that we need you guys to ask excellent questions.

Guidelines for Requesting Support

  1. Write a Title that accurately summarises the question.
  2. What exactly is the problem or requirement you are trying to achieve?
    • Imagine you are talking to a busy colleague (we are very busy!) and you need to sum up your question in one paragraph.
    • Include any screenshots of what you want to achieve.
    • Tell us what version of SciChart you are using.
  3. What have you tried so far?
    • Include Code samples of what you have already tried
    • Make sure code is well formatted (see how to format code).
  4. Help us to reproduce the situation
    • Sometimes a code sample helps
    • Sometimes you can reproduce using our own examples.

We often prioritise speed of answering based on how clearly people ask their questions. Why? Because we are human and well-formed questions are easy to answer! 🙂

What these have in common is a clear description of the problem or requirement and screenshots explaining it. If you do this we can help straight away!

How to Find What You’re Looking For

Hey guess what? We actually built our own custom search engine for SciChart! The Search Box is on every page of SciChart.

If you ask us a question privately (via priority support), it will not be indexed. If you ask a question publicly (via forums) then others can benefit from it to, as it will be added to the search index. So we encourage public question asking where possible.

If you are a SciChart Professional or SciChart Source-code customer and you need support urgently, by all means use our Priority Support tickets. If the information we give you is useful, we can always create a KB article or FAQ on behalf of other SciChart users.

Voting on Forum Posts

Finally, don’t be afraid to vote up/down on the forum. In fact, we actively encourage it! This way the best answers will rise to the top.
